Alys Alley, Chief Programming Officer of the Michigan Student Assembly, NASA member and former NASA co-chair had the opportunity to participate in the Udall Foundation's Native American Congressional Internship program last summer. Today Alys and her fellow interns were featured on Indian Country Today:
"If you’re a Native American or Alaska Native student who wants to help solve problems in Indian country while learning about policy issues that affect Native communities, the Udall Foundation’sNative American Congressional Internship program could be for you.
Interns spend 10 weeks in Washington, D.C. working in congressional and agency offices where they can research legislative issues important to tribal communities, and network with public officials.
The Udall Foundation provides interns with housing, travel to and from D.C., a per diem for daily expenses, and an educational stipend at the end of the program. Current graduate students, law students and undergraduate juniors and seniors are eligible to apply. Recent graduates of a four-year college are also eligible.
For more information and to apply visit the Udall Foundation website."
Congratulations Alys and we are proud of your accomplishments! If anyone is interested in applying for the Udall Scholarship/Internship programs, please email us at nasa.exec [at] umich [dot] edu so we can connect you to Alys for advice and information about the program & the application process.
Additionally, We are having a powwow meeting tomorrow, Thursday November 4 at 6:30 PM in 3512 Haven Hall. We will start the meeting by doing a little flyering around campus to publicize Native Heritage Month and then we'll have some snacks while we discuss powwow. A big thank you goes out to Paul Irwin for putting together the Native Heritage Month poster & Tony Menard for the John Herrington event poster! They look great! Chi-miigwetch!
